The first year that my husband, Douglas Wolk, and I attended Burning Man, we devised as our project the Love Registry - a sort of lo-fi cross between "Love Connection" and Concentration. I took Polaroids of participants while Douglas asked for their favorite adjectives. We wrote the adjective on the photo, gave it a number, and pinned it on a bulletin board. For example: Any Love Registrant could then tell us the numbers of other folks she or he wanted to meet. If two people chose each other, we'd sprinkle them with glitter, tell each where the other was camping, and send them on their merry way. Out of more than two hundred participants, we got around a dozen matches. We also left with a stack of entertaining Polaroids.
